Kamala Harris Claims Abortion Bans Will Harm America’s Sons: ‘Everyone Has Something at Risk’

Vice President Kamala Harris sparked a debate about gender, abortion and responsibility Monday when she said the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade will impact America’s sons, too.

Harris made the remarks in an interview with CNN as she discussed her shock at the Supreme Court’s decision.

“The court actually took a constitutional right that has been recognized for half a century and took it from the women of America,” she said.

Harris said she and her husband have a 23-year-old daughter who “will not know the rights” that her 80-something mother-in-law knew.

Harris then turned to America’s sons.

“And when we think about it, everyone has something at risk on this,” Harris said. “First of all, if you are a parent of sons, do think about what this means for the life of your son. And what that will mean in terms of the choices he will have.”

The comment sparked confusion and pushback.

“My sons would take responsibility if they fathered a child. Not sure what Kamala is talking about,” one person tweeted.

“You mean, like he’ll have to take responsibility for his children and become a father, rather than cough up $500 for a hasty abortion or, worse, coerce the mother of his child into choosing abortion so he can get himself off the hook?” National Review’s Alexandra DeSanctis wrote.

Meanwhile, Harris said the Biden administration is exploring its options on how to fight the Supreme Court ruling. The November election, she said, will impact the debate.

“We are 130-odd days away from an election, which is going to include Senate races. Part of the issue here is that the court has acted [and] now Congress needs to act. But we, if you count the votes, don’t appear to have the votes in the Senate. Well, there’s an election happening in 130-odd days. And we need to change the balance and have pro-choice legislators who have the power to make decisions about whether this constitutional right will be in law.”
