Update: Mike Flynn Pleads Guilty to Lying to FBI’s Special Counsel

UPDATE: Michael Flynn has entered his guilty plea and will reportedly testify against President Donald Trump.

The original story follows below:

The Special Counsel announced Friday morning a plea hearing for former National Security Adviser Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn later in the day.

Flynn, according to court documents released by the special counsel, is charged with lying to the FBI.

“On or about January 24, 2017, defendant MICHAEL T. FLYNN did willfully and knowingly make materially false, fictitious, and fraudulent statements and representations in a matter within the jurisdiction of the executive branch of the Government of the United States.”

The special counsel charged that Flynn lied about not asking then-Russian Ambassador to the U.S. Sergei Kislyak to refrain from escalating the situation in response to sanctions imposed by the Obama administration on December 29, 2016, and saying he did not recall that Kislyak told him Russia would moderate its response as a result.

It also charged that Flynn lied about asking Kislyak on December 22, 2016 to delay a vote on or defeat a pending United Nations Security Council resolution, and that Kislyak did not describe Russia’s response to the request.

Flynn is scheduled to appear at the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia at 10: 30 a.m. on Friday, where he is expected to plead guilty as part of a plea deal.
