Justice Dept. Launches Investigation into Planned Parenthood
The Justice Department has received the go-ahead to investigate allegations that Planned Parenthood is entertaining offers to purchase the body parts of aborted babies. Funded by taxpayer dollars, the organization has come under fire for promoting abortion and using abortion’s profits for its own gains.
“Abortion is a safe way to end a pregnancy. Get the facts about the abortion pill and in-clinic abortion,” says Planned Parenthood’s website.
The investigation is the culmination of an undercover effort sparked by activists two years ago, who filmed their prospective purchase of fetal tissue from Planned Parenthood. David Daleiden, leader of the pro-life Center for Medical Progress, had this to say in reference to the candid discussion of baby hearts, lungs, livers, and brains proposed for purchase: “Planned Parenthood’s sale of aborted baby body parts is the greatest human atrocity of our times and must finally be brought to justice under the law.”
Phone calls were also uncovered revealing receipt of fetal tissue by California based company, StemExpress. Fetal Tissue Research was once a widely supported cause, and there are laws in place that have allowed medical gains in using fetal tissuedonated to find a cure for cancer, the polio vaccine, and other research projects. CNN reported back in January that the real criminals are the activists who skirted the law and ended up without enough evidence to support their argument. It seems that the Justice Department might have reason to believe there is more to the story.
“Stand up for our health and rights,”states the banner on the Planned Parenthood website, a cry to gain further funding via public donations. Anti-abortion activists are left to wonder who is fighting for the rights of those tiny beating hearts that can’t speak up for themselves.
The suspicious nature of Planned Parenthood’s alleged fetal tissue sales was heightened by their refusal to provide the FBI requested documents. Fox news reported that the committee’s leadership was told to provide a letter assuring that the documents would be used for investigative purposes. Urging the FBI to investigate Planned Parenthood, Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, submitted the final reportentitled “Human Fetal Tissue Research: Context and Controversy” a year ago this month.
“There is a great deal of evidence showing the abortion industry has skirted both state and federal laws that serve as the bare-minimum protection for the dignity of human life,” stated Catherine Glenn Foster, chief executive officer and president of Americans United for Life.
