Christian Ministries Aim to Influence Every College Campus with the Gospel

There is a prayer movement beginning to take flight for God’s Word to be heard in hard to reach collegiate student bodies across the country.  “The goal is zero,” Mark Gautheir told CBN News,“Zero campuses without an expression of a student ministry by 2025.” Gauthier is the executive director of Cru’s U.S. campus ministry, who is teaming up with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship to launch this mission. They are hoping that youth engagement in moments of participation with organizations will help the success of their cause.

The #everycampus campaign aims to reach 1,800 college campuses with the Gospel message. The campaign website, everycampus.us, states, “God loves every student on campus. But, more than half of today’s college students attend a campus where there is not an active group of Christians sharing the love an hope of Jesus with their classmates. We want to change that.” CBN News reported that the two campus ministries, which are the biggest of their kind in the country, are teaming up in hopes to encourage other churches and organizations to join them in their mission.

The method behind the mission is deeply rooted in the passion both ministries have to reach college students. The purpose of InterVarsity is as follows: “In response to God’s love, grace, and truth …to establish and advance at colleges and universities witnessing communities of students and faculty who follow Jesus as Savior and Lord: growing in love for God, God’s Word, God’s people of every ethnicity and culture, and God’s purposes in the world.” Cru (formerly Campus Crusade)’s website reaffirms, “when you take on the task of reaching the world, you have to think big.”

The executive vice president for field ministry at InterVarsity, Jason Thomas, told CBN News, ”We would love to see a gospel movement planted in every campus in the country, particularly in every campus that has at least 1,000 students.” Thomas went on to state that traditionally underserved communities like smaller state schools, liberal arts colleges, community colleges, historically black colleges and universities and tribal colleges tend to go unreached. “You need different kind of effort to contextualize the gospel,” he said.
