Christian Singer Transforms Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape of You’ into Worship Song
Beckah Shae released a re-make of Ed Sheeran’s chart smashing song, “Shape of You,” transforming the single into a Christian worship anthem. The lyrics, published by hellochristian.com, proclaim,
“You are Love, and I worship You
Whatever You say, I will do
You have my heart, show me the truth
Elohim, breathe on me.”
Shae has established her own record company, Shae Shoc Records, with her husband, Jack Shocklee. Per the artist’swebsite, Shae describes the broken home that God pulled her through: “I walked through many challenging times with my mom, including abusive remarriages, being very poor and spending a lot of time in other people’s homes including battered women’s shelters. Alongside all of that, I suffered a lot of insecurities and went through a season of eating disorders, but even amidst it all, I always knew God was with me and for me.” Shae’s passion for the Lord bleeds through this remake, as she refers to “Elohim,” the Hebrew word most frequently used for God in the Old Testament.
As reported by hellochristian, Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” has received over one billion plays on YouTube, and topped charts for a record 16 weeks in a row. Well over a million YouTubers have viewed Shae’s remake, “Shape of You, Beckah Shae’s Way.”
“The club isn’t the best place to find a lover so to You is where I go,” she sings, in contrary to the way Sheeran’s original lyrics start: “so the bar is where I go.” While Shae proclaims to the Lord, “Whatever You say I will do,” Charismanews.com reported that Sheeran’s radio smash left many singing lyrics about sex.
Sheeran’s song isn’t the only one the artist has re-made. On her YouTube Channel, there are re-makes of many mainstream songs, including Demi Lovato’s “Sorry Not Sorry,”Camila Cabello’s “Havana,”Julia Michael’s “Issues,” and Taylor Swifts, “Look What You Made Me Do.”
The Christian Singer/Songwriter recently tweeted,“Make whatever you want- whatever God wants, and you will Always Win!” The Christian Post reported that Shae and her husband Jack Shocklee, who got married in 2004 and are now parents to three daughters, have not always been supported by the music industry.
In an interview with breathcast, Shae called her husband and creative collaborator “her greatest blessing.” She also shared some of the heartbreaking rejection that the couple has endured in that sameinterview.“It crushed us and hurt us, but we walked out stronger,” the singer said of labels discouraging them to work together as a married couple, and one executive even cutting off her testimony. The former Orange County resident is no stranger to the pull of societal conformity. “See yourself as God sees you,” she urged, “that’s the beginning of freedom.”
Shae also produces “Scripture Snacks,” short snippets of Scripture put to song. Her most recent album, “Mighty,” was released in 2016.
