West Point Posthumously Accepts JROTC Student Killed in Florida Shooting

The United States Military Academy at West Point has decided to posthumously accept fallen JROTC high school student Peter Wang to the class of 2025.

Brittany Wallman of the Sun Sentinel reported Tuesday that the U.S. military college would give Wang’s family an acceptance letter to West Point and honorarium tokens.

Wang’s neighbor told Fox News that the student’s dream was to attend West Point.

Wang, who was a member of the JROTC program at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, was shot and killed  while trying to protect his fellow students from the shooter.

The 15-year-old student was killed along with 16 others in the Wednesday January 14 shooting.

A petition posted to WhiteHouse.gov urged the U.S. military to give Wang a full military funeral with honors.

“His selfless and heroic actions have led to the survival of dozens in the area. Wang died a hero, and deserves to be treated as such, and deserves a full honors military burial,” reads the petition, which had 59,432 signatures as of Tuesday afternoon.

The petition would need about 40,000 more signatures by March 18 before it gets an official response from the White House.

Wang’s funeral is scheduled to take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Kraeer Funeral Home in Coral Springs. The student’s family plans to lay him to rest at Bailey Memorial Gardens in North Lauderdale.
