Trump May Not Yet Have the Wall, but He’s Removing the Welcome Mat for ILLEGALS
President Donald Trump continues to confound his critics.
The same pundits who went crazy when he first proposed a wall on the southern border now rail against him for being a failure because he has not achieved that border wall.
But beyond the political theater and tweets, when one considers what Trump has actually done, there is a surprise: The wall may not be there, but neither is the welcome mat to illegals that President Barack Obama had put out. That’s progress.
I am the grandson of four immigrants to America.
I grew up in a community in suburban New York City that was made up of nearly all immigrant-related families. There were Italians, Irish, Poles, East European Jews, and—it was nearly 60 years ago—even a smattering of Hispanics and Africans.
Every one of them came to America legally. Many took a great deal of time and effort to do it, but they played by the rules. In fact, that’s what made America so different from pretty much every one of their respective “old countries”—namely, things followed the rules.
