RT TAKES GOLD AT NEW YORK FESTIVALS FOR SYRIA DOCUMENTARY AND #1917LIVE TWITTER PROJECT
MOSCOW, APRIL 11 — RT’s documentary detailing the suffering of children living in war-torn Syria, and its social media reenactment #1917LIVE both won gold at the prestigious New York Festivals. RT also took home five silver and two bronze medals.
RT’s ‘Growing Up With War: Children of Syria,’a documentary that looks at the lives of Syrian children who have grown up without ever knowing peace, took top honors at the New York Festivals .
RT’s international #1917LIVE Twitter project, a large-scale historical reenactment marking the 100th anniversary of the Russian Revolution by recreating the events “in real time,” won in the Digital Special Event category, while the promo videos for the project took home silver for Cinematography.
An episode of RT America’s On Contact, hosted by Emmy-nominated, Pulitzer-prize winning author Chris Hedges, which examined the growing drug problem in the US, won silver in the Best Investigative Report category.
RT’s documentaries about the social-caste system in India and an African movement fighting to protect its fish stocks also won silver and bronze respectively.
RT Spanish’s ‘Cocina política’ (Political Cuisine) promo and the channel’s promo for its social media accounts won silver medals, while RT’s special coverage of the parliamentary elections in Germany took bronze.
RT is a multiple winner at the New York Festivals. In 2017, a series of special reports by RT about war-torn Libya and a documentary about the water shortage crisis in India both took home gold. In 2015, RT won prizes in four different categories. In 2014, the channel’s ‘Blood and Honor’ documentary won gold, beating CNN, while Julian Assange’s show took home gold in 2013.
New York Festivals World’s Best TV & Films is one of the largest festivals honoring achievements in journalism, movie-making and advertising.
