FOX Cancels ‘The Mick’ and ‘Lucifer,’ and Pro-Family Groups are Happy

The Mick and Lucifer — two FOX television shows that drew the ire of pro-family groups – have been cancelled.

FOX last week opted not to renew The Mick, which followed an irresponsible young woman who raises her niece and nephews. FOX also opted not to renew Lucifer, which told the story of the fallen angel coming to Earth after he gets bored in Hell.

The Parents Television Council said it “welcomed” the cancellation of The Mick, which the PTC said “consistently marketed adult content to children and routinely put child characters in extremely adult situations. PTC had called on companies not to advertise on the show.

“Every TV network should view the commercial failure of The Mick as an important learning opportunity,” PTC president Tim Winter said. “Hollywood cannot applaud and embrace the #MeToo era while simultaneously asking its audience to be amused and entertained by the same repulsive behavior that spawned the movement to begin with. Even worse, The Mick was using its child actors to deliver much of the most sexualizing program content.

“The Fox Broadcast Network invested heavily to help promote The Mick. But as the national viewing audience became increasingly aware of the program’s disturbing themes, fewer and fewer people watched.”

More than 40 corporations, PTC said, ceased running ads on the show after being contacted by the PTC and its members.

Lucifer aired for three seasons and was criticized by One Million Moms, which urged companies to pull their ads in part because it “glorifies Satan as a caring, likable person in human flesh.”

“At the same time, God’s emissary, the angel Amenadiel, has been sent to Los Angeles to convince Lucifer to return to the underworld,” One Million Moms wrote in an email to supporters. “Lucifer questions Amenadiel, ‘Do you think I’m the devil because I’m inherently evil or just because dear old Dad decided I was?’ The question is meant to make people rethink assumptions about good and evil, including about God and Satan.”

The show also included “graphic acts” of violence and sexual content, One Million Moms said.

Lucifermay get new life, though. Supporters of Lucifer launched a social media campaign urging another network to pick up the series, and at one point #SaveLucifer was the No. 1 trending topic on Twitter, ComicBook.com reported.
