New, More Realistic HGTV Show To Feature Couples Starting Home Improvement Projects, Getting Frustrated, Giving Up

U.S.—A newg HGTV program called Real Home Improvement Projects of America will feature a more realistic take on home repairs and upgrades, as the couples featured on the show will excitedly start an “easy DIY” home upgrade project, eventually get frustrated, and finally just give up.

Couples on each episode will be inspired by an “easy” upgrade they see on Pinterest or another HGTV show, will go out and buy all the materials, but will quickly discover it’s nowhere near as easy as the guy on the video made it look.

“We found many of our viewers felt disconnected from what they saw as an unrealistic pace of home upgrades in many of our programs,” head of programming Vince Landell said. “They’ll identify much better with our star couples trying to install shiplap and having it come out looking like a third grader did it, or attempting to do a simple backsplash in the kitchen but just calling it quits after a mind-numbing weekend fumbling with trowels and mastic.”

The show will also feature more accurate timelines for upgrades and repairs, with a “quick” accent wall taking four years for a couple to work on before finally throwing in the towel.

HGTV also announced a home repair show that will display couples having a passive-aggressive discussion about finally replacing the bedroom doorknob that one of the kids broke three years ago, picking up supplies to paint the living room only to leave them neglected in the garage for months, and rigging up a complex contraption to flush a broken toilet rather than simply buying a new handle for eight bucks at Home Depot.
