Concerns Raised Over Video Featuring 10-Year-Old ‘Desmond the Drag Kid’: ‘I Wanted to Do Drag … When I Was Two’

A viral video of a 10-year-old boy who identifies as a “LGBTQ activist and advocate” and a “drag kid” is raising concern as some state that children being taught about drag and homosexuality is inappropriate and a reflection of ungodly parenting.

“I was born in Pride Month,” the child, who identifies as “Desmond Is Amazing,” states in the video, shared by The Huffington Post on Friday. “Gay pride means self-expression to me. … I discovered that I wanted to do drag when I watched the first episode of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ when I was two.”

Desmond, donning a pink dress and hat, was called up on stage by RuPaul during DragCon 2017, calling him a “gorgeous little queen” and having him “sashay” for the onlookers. He also has appeared at homosexual pride events and has his own YouTube channel, with over 2,000 followers.

In last week’s video, the child outlines that in pursuing drag, he soon began wearing dresses and emulating the styles of various over-the-top fashion designers.

“Then I moved on to little dresses. Then I moved on to making outfits,” Desmond states, wearing a yellow wig and fabric mouse ears. “I got my inspiration from designers like Alexander McQueen, Betsey Johnson, Commes des Garcon, Jean Paul Gaultier, The Club Kids (their fashion and the makeup, not the bad things) and The Blitz Kids of London.”

As video clips show the child applying makeup, he explains how others can get their start in drag.

“If you want to do drag, just start off with a little wig and some lip gloss, and a little t-shirt and a little skirt, and some heels or sneakers or whatever,” Desmond advises. “You can be a drag queen no matter what.”

He also states that the reason he’s been dressing in drag freely is because his parents are supportive of the concept.

“I’ve always been able to be myself because of my supporting mom and dad,” Desmond says. “Drag is a form of expression and being yourself, and dressing however you want and looking fierce, no matter what you’re wearing. Even if your eyeliner went down and it’s so bad, you still look fierce.”

The video shows the child primping and pursing his blue lips in front of a mirror.

“My motto is ‘Be yourself always,’ but I like to add this on: ‘No matter what anyone says and pay the haters no mind because they’re not as fierce as you,’” Desmond said.

The video, which was posted by The Huffington Post with the remark “the future is queer,” has generated over 1.3 million views as of press time. It has drawn both applause and concern as some opine that there is nothing wrong with the concept of a drag kid as long as the child is happy, and others contend that the idea of a young boy dressing up as a girl and supporting homosexual pride is inappropriate.

“Love seeing kids express themselves creatively. My daughter told me her sexual preferences at age 12 and I’m fine with it. They might change/shift/evolve; they might not. Being a parent means loving your kids unconditionally,” one commenter remarked.

“A lot of you have to realize that your minds are stuck in the norms of our era. 500 years from now gender fluidity will be the norm. You are not able to transport your mind to the future and see it all. You’re basic [expletive]…,” another stated.

“We’ve taken this whole gender fluidity thing a little too far,” a third wrote. “He’s clearly replicating the behaviors he sees on TV. Time to go outside and ride a bike or something.”

“Nothing about this is right. Kids this young don’t need to be doing ‘what they want’ because they don’t know what they want. They need to be guided and taught. These parents need a wake up call,” another opined.

“Remember folks, these types of kids are the ‘future.’ What kind of world do you think we would have with these new ‘pick your gender’ and ‘you can be anything you want, even a puppy’ and ‘2+2=7’ folks running it?” one commenter also asked. “Parents [are] not actually leading their children on the right path, but instead supporting their wicked desires that could be corrected instead.”

“These are the last days, people,” she said. “You can buy into that lgbtqrstuvwxyz stuff if you want to. This is wrong. And you know it, too. Jesus is coming soon. Repent and put your faith in Him while there is time.”
