Turkey ends state of emergency put in place after 2016 coup attempt
Turkey’s state of emergency – in place since the 2016 failed coup attempt – came to an end on Thursday, local media report. The government decided against extending it again after renewing it in April, state-run Anadolu news agency reports. The state of emergency saw numerous coup supporters arrested or dismissed from their jobs over alleged links to self-exiled cleric Fethullah Gulen, who Ankara blames for orchestrating the coup.
