Democrats Call for In-N-Out Boycott Over Donation to GOP

The wildly popular fast food chain, In-N-Out Burger, has donated $25,000 to the GOP sparking controversy. The openly Christian, west coast food chain reportedly donated a large sum of money to the GOP this week causing Washington, D.C.-based journalist Gabe Schneider, to respond on Twitter, Wednesday.

Schneider posted a screenshot of the company’s contribution and captioned it, “In-N-Out added a new item to their secret menu.”

This tweet gained the attention of thousands of people receiving 1,522 retweets and 2,497 likes.

On Thursday, Eric Bauman, the chairman of the California Democratic Party, also spoke out about this on Twitter calling for Californians to boycott the resturant. Bauman said, “Et tu In-N-Out? Tens of thousands of dollars donated to the California Republican Party… it’s time to #BoycottInNOut – Let Trump and his cronies support these creeps… perhaps animal style!”

According to CBS News, In-N-Out executive vice president Arnie Wensinger responded to this call to action on Twitter saying, “For years, In-N-Out Burger has supported lawmakers who, regardless of political affiliation, promote policies that strengthen California and allow us to continue operating with the values of providing strong pay and great benefits for our Associates.”

He continued, “While it is unfortunate that our contributions to support both political parties in California has caused concern with some groups, we believe that bipartisan support is a fair and consistent approach that best serves the interests of our company and all of our Customers,”

This year In-N-Out also donated money to a political action committee known as Californians for Jobs and a Strong Economy which was founded by David Townsend, a political operative who identifies as a democrat. The company donated $50,000 to the PAC.
