John Kerry On Possible 2020 Run: ‘I Won’t Rule Out Another Dramatic And Humiliating Loss’

U.S.—Former Secretary of State and 2004 presidential candidate John Kerry sat down with “Face the Nation” host Margaret Brennan in early September to talk about a host of topics.

During their exchange, Brennan asked Kerry if he planned on running for president again in 2020. He replied: “I’m really not thinking about it. Talking about 2020 right now is a total distraction and waste of time. What we need to do is focus on 2018.”

Kerry added, however, that while a presidential run is not on his mind at the moment, he is indeed open to “the possibility of another dramatic and humiliating loss.”

“In 2004, I lost the Electoral College by 35 points, and the popular vote by approximately three million votes, but I think I can do worse,” the former Secretary of State said.

Kerry has long been underestimated when it comes to losing.

“My lies concerning Vietnam really gave voters a reason to dislike me in 2004. I really hope that over the last fourteen years, respect for me as a public figure has diminished to the point of vanishing, like sand slipping through the fingers of a clumsy child,” Kerry stated as he drew his trademark under-eye bags using Black Velvet lipstick by Lime Crime.

As of publication, an anonymous Kerry staffer had claimed that the former Secretary of State seems elated at the prospect of another spectacular loss.
