Stabbing attack terrorist apprehended
The terrorist who carried out a stabbing attack in the West Bank on Thursday afternoon has been apprehended, following intelligence and operational activities by the General Security Service, the Border Police’s Counterterrorism Unit (Yamam) and the IDF, the Shin Bet reported.
The assailant, 19, a resident of the village Jamma’in near Nablus, was transferred to a GSS interrogation.
An IDF reservist and an Israeli civilian were wounded during the stabbing attack carried out by the Palestinian assailant outside the Samaria Territorial Brigade base in the West Bank on Thursday afternoon.
The 32 year-old reservist was moderately wounded after being stabbed in his face and upper body and a 26 year-old Israeli woman was lightly wounded in her leg by shrapnel from friendly fire. Both victims were evacuated to Beilinson Hospital fully conscious, reported Magen David Adom.
According to initial reports in Israeli media, the Palestinian stabbed the reservist who had been standing at a bus stop near Maskit Junction between Har Bracha and Itamar in the Shomron. Soldiers and civilians in the area tried to overcome the assailant, with troops opening fire towards him as he fled the scene, hitting the civilian.
Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman praised the operation on his Twitter account: “Exceptional intelligence and operational work led to the capture of the terrorist, hours after the attack he carried out at Shomron Square.”
All resources would now return to the main task, which is the capture of the terrorist from Barkan, who is still on the loose, he wrote.
“The account with him will soon be closed as well.”
Security forces are still searching for the terrorist who shot two Israelis to death and moderately wounded a third at the Barkan Industrial Park on Sunday morning.
