Blasphemous Video From ‘Queer Theology’ Founder Claims Jesus Is in ‘Pansexual, Polyamorous’ Relationship With Church
A blasphemous video released on Tuesday by the founder of “Queer Theology” claims that Jesus is in a “pansexual, polyamorous” relationship with the Church, and that Christians can therefore have multiple romantic relationships as well.
“If you’re one of those people who believes in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, well, Jesus is having personal relationships with billions of other people, too,” asserts Brian Murphy, who called Jesus a “relationship sl*t” and said that he is one, too.
Murphy, who founded Queer Theology with Catholic priest Shannon Kearns, presents the argument that polyamory is biblical because Jesus has a “relationship” or “marriage” with the Church, which is comprised of many people. He points to Ephesians 5:32, which says that human marriage is to be a mirror of Christ and the Church.
“In this marriage, Jesus isn’t married to one person; He’s married to an entire body of believers,” Murphy says. “Jesus is in a pansexual, polyamorous relationship with us.”
“And so, of course Christians can be polyamorous,” Murphy claims. “That’s a biblical model of relationship.”
He states that because God doesn’t love a person less while also loving others, Christians can have relationships that aren’t monogamous.
“We already recognize that God’s love for us isn’t diminished by God’s love for others, and that each of us can have a unique, transcendent relationship with the divine,” Murphy says. “Our relationship with God can be a model for our romantic and sexual relationships as well.”
He adds that he is happy when his partner is “head over heels” about someone else because “they get to have more love in their life” and the other person gets to “experience the amazingness of my partner.”
Murphy says that he wants to assist others with how to integrate polyamory into their faith and how to share with their church that they are in a polyamorous relationship.
The video has been viewed 86,000 times as of press time, with a number of Christians sharing the post as a warning about blasphemous teaching creeping into the Church.
“This guy should be ashamed by what he has said, trying to equate the metaphor of Christ loving the Church as His bride to the sinful and ungodly sexual acts which Paul specifically condemns in Romans 1 and other places. And I’m going to rebuke him right now for blaspheming the name of Christ in this video and calling Him [the] abominable words that he used,” one viewer wrote.
“This saddens me so very much. Wrong definition of love, wrong definition of marriage. I am so very much praying for this young man,” another stated. “God loves, yes, but God’s love towards mankind is not sexual in nature. This ‘theology’ is a redefinition based on feelings, which is NOT what true love is about.”
“Let me be clear. Our holy and triune God is not polyamorous. He is a covenant-making and covenant-keeping God,” a third wrote. “And He will cause all to bow the knee, whether in obedience or judgement. Pray for mercy and truth.”
Hebrews 12:28 and 29 says that Christians are to “serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear, for our God is a consuming fire.”
Revelation 7 also describes the sober worship that will take place when the Church gathers around the throne of God.
“After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands, and cried with a loud voice, saying, ‘Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.’ And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshiped God, saying, ‘Amen. Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honor, and power, and might be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.”
