Sisi confirms Egypt is working with Israel to fight ISIS in Sinai
President Abdel Fatah al Sisi confirmed Egypt’s military was working with Israel’s to fight the Islamic State in the northern Sinai, on Wednesday during a CBS interview.
“We have a wide range of cooperation with the Israelis,” al Sisi said in the interview.
Al Sisi also refuted the idea that there were 6,000 political prisoners being held in Egyptian prisons, an estimate made by the Human Rights Watch, according to the report.
“I don’t know where they got that figure. I said there are no political prisoners in Egypt. Whenever there is a minority trying to impose their extremist ideology we have to intervene regardless of their numbers,” al Sisi said.
The US State Department said that torture and murder occurs in Egypt’s prisons today, as it did before al Sisi’s was in power.
