Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tried to fire his office’s legal adviser, Shlomit Barnea-Fargo, who is considered a central witness in the cases against him and his associates, according to an Haaretz report on Friday.

Netanyahu reportedly requested permission from Attorney-General Avichai Mandelblit, to fire Barnea-Fargo, explaining that his relationship with her has been undermined by her rejection of his testimony in the prime minister residence affair.

Mandelblit refused Netanyahu’s request and made it clear that he would not oust Barnea-Fargo.

Barnea-Fargo has been the legal adviser to the Prime Minister’s Office since 2001, during the tenure of Ariel Sharon and Ehud Olmert, and since Netanyahu returned as prime minister in 2009.

She testified several times to the police in matters relating to Netanyahu – in File 4000 (the Bezeq-Walla case), the submarines affair and the prime minister residence affair.
