Steinitz dismisses settler violence: ‘I would not call it Jewish terror’
Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz downplayed the danger of violence by Jewish settlers against Palestinians, after a Palestinian was killed Saturday, allegedly by settlers, in the West Bank.
“I would not call it Jewish terror,” Steinitz said in an interview on Army Radio Sunday. “Let’s not forget the overall situation. Every day there are such incidents on the Palestinian side.”
Hamdi Taleb Na’san, 38, a father of four, was killed in clashes just outside his village, located near the Adei Ad outpost in the Binyamin Region of the West Bank Saturday. Earlier in the day an Israeli hiker was attacked and stabbed in the hand by three Palestinians. He managed to escape to the outpost.
Steinitz also addressed the ongoing tension between Israel and Hamas, and the transfer of funds from Qatar to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
“If Israel wanted, it could stop everything and choke off Gaza entirely,” Steinitz said. “Our policy is not to bring them to cause a humanitarian crisis there.”
Hamas had initially refused to accept the Qatari money because of the conditions Israel had imposed on the transfer.
