At least 1 dead, multiple injuries reported in shooting at Illinois steel facility – coroner
One suspect has been arrested and at least one person has died after a gunman opened fire at a steel facility in Aurora, Illinois. Four officers are among ‘multiple’ injuries at the scene.
Aurora police responded to the reported shooting shortly after 2pm local time, with ATF and FBI agents following shortly afterwards.

Law enforcement and emergency personnel promptly surrounded the steel plant.
The shooter was taken into custody at 3pm local time, the city reported on Twitter.

In a Twitter update, police have confirmed that the shooter no longer poses a threat to the community.
“Active Shooter Incident has been secured,” police stated, noting that officers would remain in the area amid ongoing investigation.

“Multiple victims” have been taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove and Amita Health Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, The Daily Herald reported. There are also unconfirmed reports that at least one civilian was killed in the shooting.
Four police officers have been injured in the shootout with the suspect, ABC7 correspondent Mark Rivera reported on Twitter.
Rush Copley Hospital in Aurora has reported that it admitted two victims of the shooting and was treating them for non-life threatening injuries.
Kane County coroner’s office spokesman Chris Nelson has confirmed that the shooting has resulted in at least one fatality. Four officers have been injured in the altercation with the shooter and are now in “stable” condition, City spokesman Clayton Muhammad reported, adding that the suspect was “neutralized.”
Rush Copley is assisting those involved in the active shooter incident in Aurora. The hospital has received two patients who are being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

One witness who escaped the building told local news that he recognized the shooter as a coworker.
The shooter was firing indiscriminately inside the building, the employee told ABC7.
Witnesses told Rivera the alleged gunman showed up for work like “any other day” on Friday.
Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker tweeted that he is monitoring the situation, while calling on the locals to follow police guidelines.

The incident comes almost a year and a day after a gunman opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, killing 17 students and staff members.
