Why Sometimes The Opinion Of An Actor Does Matter
Chris Evans is a well-known actor due to his role in the Captain America movies. However, he says that he is willing to lose half of his audience over his dislike of President Trump according to a report:
The star of the mega-hit Captain America movies says he’s willing to alienate half his audience — and cut ties with New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady — because he feels compelled to trash President Donald Trump, whom he considers to be a “dumb sh*t.”
Chris Evans, now synonymous with the Captain America character, revealed in an interview that he is wading into politics with the creation of a new website. The outspoken star of the soon-to-be-released movie, Avengers: Endgame, essentially admitted that he has no respect and no use for his fans who support President Trump.
“You don’t want to alienate half your audience,” Evans explained to the The Hollywood Reporter. “But I’d be disappointed in myself if I didn’t speak up. Especially for fear of some monetary repercussion or career damage — that just feels really gross to me.”
“63 million Americans voted for Trump,” noted Chet Cannon on Twitter. “Many of them have made you rich, and you write them off over a vote? You know nothing of their lives, struggles, & decency.”
“Their vote isn’t their life story,” continued Cannon. “Your inability to see people beyond politics, however, sums you up shamefully.”
Evans’ controversial statements have the backing of Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige who, according to Evans, has told him, “Man, I love what you’re doing (on Twitter).”
The Marvel head told The Hollywood Reporter that he doesn’t regard Evans’ public statements disparaging President Trump and his millions of supporters as “trash-talking.”
On the contrary, Feige said, “I see it as very astute, very honorable, very noble, very Cap-like.”
Asked if he would jump at the chance to play quarterback Tom Brady in a biopic, Evans, who was raised in Massachusetts and is a Patriots fan, responded, “I don’t know.”
That declaration sent shockwaves through New England.
“Two of New England’s superheroes may not be able to coexist,” trumpeted MassLiveNews in a Tweet. “Chris Evans said he may need to ‘cut ties’ with Tom Brady over his support of President Trump.”
“I really hope he’s not a Trump supporter,” said Evans of Brady. “I’m just hoping he’s one of those guys that maybe supported him and now regrets it. Maybe he thought it was going to be different — and even that bothers me — but maybe there’s a chance now he just thinks Trump’s an absolute dumb sh*t, which he is.”
“If he doesn’t, if he’s still on that Trump train, I might have to cut ties,” added Evans. “It’s really tough.”
“I think maybe a couple of years ago, I might have tried to pull some, like, mental gymnastics to compartmentalize,” regarding Brady’s support for President Trump, “but I don’t know if I can anymore.”
Many Captain America fans might likewise have to pull some “mental gymnastics” and “compartmentalize” in order to watch Evans repeat his superhero role in Avengers: Endgame. (source, source)
Now I’m not going to speak in praise of Hollywood actors and their opinions, because I could care less what they think. Indeed, the very idea of an actor criticizing a Republican political figure is a joke into itself because all of them do.
What I want to focus on, simply for the statement itself, is that he would be willing to lose half of his audience because of this position he holds.
Again, I want to make clear that this I am not evaluating whether or not he actually believes his statement or not, and what his motives are. This is not a concern to me because it is the concept that I am more interested in.
Several years ago, Shoebat.com made a major decision, and that was upon having been able to sufficiently establish the link, to expose the seamless circle between National Socialism, the new nationalist movement, and the anti-Islam movement. As a result, we lost a lot of people who once followed us.
And make no mistake, we would do it again in a second and without any change, other than if we had the option, to have done it earlier.
The most important pursuit a man can have in this life is to pursue truth because that is what man is made for. Man is made to know, love, and serve God, and to be content in this life and forever happy with Him in the next. Truth, therefore, must always be the aim that one strives for because that is what matters.
Many times, it is more convenient not to be honest than it is, especially in important matters. However, this still does not absolve a man from telling the truth. When public opinion is added to the matter, and then compounded by financial gain or personal issues, it can seem to be insurmountable.
This is where principle comes it. If one holds fast to a principle, and more importantly to Christian principle that does not change nor can it be changed and which Christ promised to give strength to those who believe to persevere, one can hold on to what one believes in and ideally, tell the truth regardless of what the sentiment of the times may hold.
This actor in question is an actor, and his opinion is irrelevant as far as it should be concerned regarding politics and regardless of the politician in question. However, what one can see is an apparent principled stance on a particular issue that regardless how it affects him, he is willing to hold because he believes it to be true. This concept is to be commended because it is far too easy to subscribe to a particular view because it is convenient at a time to do so.
Many of these “actors” and others are pagan in either their beliefs or views, and they live accordingly. However, a man who is often incorrect can say something that is correct and it is important to recognize this when it happens as it can be a lesson for those who do strive to believe in what is true to remind them of their own commitments to tell the truth.
It could have been very easy for Shoebat.com to go the way of promoting nationalism. Indeed, it would have earned us a lot more popularity then what we already had.
But we did not, and we are glad we did not, for while it would have been an easier road to travel, so is also the road to hell, which is where the nationalist movement and her sister movements are going.
