JACKSON, MS—Ridgeside Baptist Church is still holding potlucks every week while holding the Lord’s Supper only every quarter, sources at the church confirmed.
“The Bible tells us the early church met together regularly and shared everything, which means they came together and had everyone bring a casserole or dessert to share,” the church’s pastor, Lucas Paulson, told reporters. “We’re not given a strict command on how often to meet for the Lord’s Supper, so we just do it when it crosses our minds.”
“We want to keep it special,” he added.
According to the pastor, the potluck is “basically a biblical ordinance anyway,” and is a suitable substitute for remembering Christ’s death before He comes by drinking the grape juice and eating the bread together.
“We’re breaking casseroles and drinking watered-down punch, but it’s kind of the same,” he said.
At publishing time, this coming July’s Lord’s Supper had been postponed for a massive patriotic service.
