Newly sworn in Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh said Tuesday night that US President Donald Trump’s peace plan will be “born dead.”
Shtayyeh said the American “Deal of the Century,” was declaring a “financial war” on the Palestinian people, during an interview with The Associated Press.
In dealing with this “war,” Shtayyeh outlined how he would tackle this financial crises, predicating that the world would not back Trump’s peace deal.
“There are no partners in Palestine for Trump. There are no Arab partners for Trump and there are no European partners for Trump,” Shtayyeh said in the interview.
Shtayyeh joins the Palestinian Authority, amid a financial crises. As of February, the US stopped all of its aid to Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza. The US was responsible for more than USD $6 million annually.
“Israel is part of the financial war that has been declared upon us by the United States. The whole system is to try to push us to surrender” and agree to an unacceptable peace proposal, Shtayyeh said in the report. “This a financial blackmail, which we reject.”
The prime minister said he will be implementing a number of spending cuts by reducing cabinet ministers’ perks.
“Where are we going to have the Palestinian state?” Shtayyeh asked the AP. “We are not looking for an entity. We are looking for a sovereign state.”
“Palestinians are not interested in economic peace. We are interested in ending occupation,” he said. “Life cannot be enjoyed under occupation.”
Shtayyeh echoed Nabil Abu Rudeineh’s, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ spokesman, comments. “As long as Jerusalem is off the table, then Trump is off the table as well,” Abu Rudeineh said.
