MENLO PARK, CA—Facebook confirmed Thursday the social network is rolling out a new “Pun Master” badge for commenters who make ostensibly hilarious puns on every post and article they come across.
The badges will help Facebook commenters quickly identify those users who see every news story, post, photo, and status update as an opportunity to make a play on words, no matter how cringe-worthy.
“Commenters who do nothing put post cheesy puns on articles all day long will be eligible for the badge,” a Facebook rep said. “People who make puns are… well, they’re special, aren’t they? And we want to recognize just how special they are with this special badge.”
“People who make funny puns are the lifeblood of Facebook. If you don’t like puns, you have no soul,” he said, quickly adding, “But if you don’t have any shoes, then you have no sole.”
He was asked to leave the room.
At publishing time, Facebook representatives had confirmed they would be introducing a related “Dad Joke” badge soon.
