Three games to go: Manchester City and Liverpool separated by a point as title race goes to the wire

The race for the English Premier League title approaches the finishing straight with Manchester City and Liverpool separated by just a solitary point. RT Sport looks ahead to the crucial final two weeks of the season.

City and Liverpool have been neck and neck ever since a small mid-season blip saw Liverpool make up ground on the defending Premier League champions.

And now, with just three games left for each side, the stakes couldn’t be higher as City look to retain the title and Liverpool bid to capture their first title since winning the old First Division title in 1989-90.

THE STATE OF PLAY

1. Manchester City – P35, W29, D2, L4, GF89, GA22, GD 67, 89 POINTS

2. Liverpool – P35, W27, D7, L1, GF79, GA20, GD59, 88 POINTS

THE FINAL FIXTURES

MANCHESTER CITY

April 28: Burnley (A)
May 6: Leicester City (H)
May 12: Brighton & Hove Albion (A)

City’s three-game run-in sees them face a tricky away trip to Turf Moor to face a Burnley side who have taken 10 points from a possible 12 from their last four league matches.

They then return home to the Etihad to face Leicester City, who have bounced back into form with four wins from their last six outings – and also hold a 2-1 win over the Sky Blues from earlier in the season.

Pep Guardiola’s men then complete the season with a trip to the south coast to face relegation-threatened Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium in a match that could have season-defining implications for both teams.

LIVERPOOL

Apr 26: Huddersfield Town (H)
May 4: Newcastle United (A)
May 12: Wolverhampton Wanderers (H)

Liverpool will bid to finish their campaign with a 12-match winning streak as they look to overtake City and pip them to the post after a dramatic run-in.

The Reds get the chance to nose ahead when they welcome to Anfield a Huddersfield Town side that has lost seven in a row in the Premier League.

They then travel to St. James’ Park to face the notoriously inconsistent Newcastle United, led by former Reds’ boss Rafa Benitez.

And if the title race is still alive going into the final weekend of the season, Liverpool will finish the season against one of the revelations of the season, as Wolverhampton Wanderers come to Anfield in what could turn out to be a nerve-shredding clash.

THE ODDS

With both sides in stellar form and City holding a crucial one-pound advantage heading into the final three games, the bookmakers are understandably backing the Sky Blues to finish the job and claim the 2019 Premier League title.

City are 1/4 shots with bookmakers across the UK and Ireland, with Liverpool as big as 3/1 shots with some oddsmakers.

The two sides are favored to win all three of their respective matches, meaning the title could well be decided by just one point after the 38-game season.

THE GOALSCORERS

As well as the title race itself, another chase for silverware will be decided in the final weeks of the season, with players from City and Liverpool both challenging for honors.

The Golden Boot award for the Premier League’s top goalscorer is every bit as tight as the title race itself, with Liverpool’s Mo Salah, City’s Sergio Aguero and Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubangeyang all tied at the top with 19 goals apiece.

Just behind them are Liverpool’s Sadio Mane on 18 and City’s Raheem Sterling on 17.
