Iranian House Church Leader Doubly Sentenced to Prison

(Open Doors USA) Iranian Christians are asking prayer for an Iranian house church leader and a member of his church whose convictions were upheld. Iranian house church leader Saheb Fadaei (pictured left) and 37-year-old Fatimeh Bakhteri (right) just received news of their prison sentences for 18 months and 12 months, respectively. Saheb is additionally sentenced to two years in internal exile — a punishment often given to political prisoners in Iran.

The two were convicted of “spreading propaganda against the regime.”

Saheb and Fatimeh were arrested at a house church in Rasht on May 25, 2017. More than a year later in September 2018–following a court hearing earlier in the month–their lawyer told them they had each been found guilty. Reportedly, during the hearing a judge asked each one to renounce their Christian faith. They quickly refused.

An appeal hearing earlier this year in January upheld the conviction for the Iranian house church leader and church member; they just learned about their prison sentences on May 18.
