‘A Prayer Really Goes a Long Way’: Chance the Rapper Relies on God to Help Loved One in Need of Kidney
Famed hip-hop artist Chance the Rapper has said that he is trusting God after revealing that his aunt is in “dire need” of a kidney transplant.
The “Ultralight Beam” singer announced the concerning news on Twitter May 23 and pleaded with his 8.2 million followers for assistance. “I really need help,” he wrote. “My Auntie Toni is one of the strongest forces in my life, and she is in dire need of a #kidney. We have exhausted all options and have been wait listed for years.”
I really need help. My Auntie Toni is one of the strongest forces in my life, and she is in dire need of a #kidney. We have exhausted all options and have been wait listed for years. My family believes in the power of prayer and we give this problem up to God.

Though obviously troubled by the grave health situation of his family member, Chance added that those closest to him have a lot of faith for her recovery. “My family believes in the power of prayer and we give this problem up to God,” he declared, noting that “a prayer really goes a long way.”

Taking a practical step toward finding a match for his beloved aunt, Chance revealed her blood type in hope of acquiring a donor. “I’m sorry it was a lil (sic) overwhelmingly emotion[al] writing this, Her blood type is O positive,” he wrote, “you can get a quick blood test and physical to find your a match.”

Many have already replied to Chance with offers to help his family at their time of need. “Hi Chance. Please send me a message. In the past few days I have signed up to become an altruistic living donor,” one person wrote. “This seems like it was meant to be. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help.”
“Hey@chancetherapper I’m O- blood type and can give a kidney to any person with any blood type,” another added. “Please let him see this!”
In his final tweet on the matter, Chance declared, “I serve a promise keeping God and his timing’s impeccable.”
Chance has spoken about his faith at length in the past. In December, the rapper announced he was taking a sabbatical to further study the Bible.
“I’ve been brought up by my family to know Christ but I haven’t taken it upon myself to really just take a couple days and read my Bible,” he wrote on Instagram at the time. “We all quote scripture and tell each other what God likes and doesn’t like but how much time do we spend as followers of Jesus to really just read and KNOW his Word. I’m definitely guilty of not devoting time to it,” he added.
