Oklahoma City School District Invites Students to Walk Alongside School Bus in Pride Parade
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — For the third year in a row, Oklahoma City Public Schools plans to participate in the upcoming homosexual and transgender pride parade, and is inviting students and their parents to walk along the school bus that will be a part of the procession.
“You can walk with #OKCPS in the 2019 Oklahoma City Pride Parade! We invite our staff, students, families, and friends to walk alongside our school bus on June 22!” it posted to social media on June 6, generating hundreds of comments, most expressing outrage that taxpayer funds are being used for the event, and that the district can endorse homosexuality but not Christianity.
The parade is scheduled for Saturday at noon on 39th Street. See the participant form here.
“I cannot believe that the state’s largest school district would condone this activity, much less invite our kids to participate,” one commenter wrote.
“[The school district] can support the LGBTQ community but not Christianity? Yeah, seems legit,” another remarked.
“I’d like to request a public-owned school bus for hauling kids to our church for VBS. Exactly the same as using one for a pride parade,” a third jabbed.
“I am 71 years old and I never believed my tax money would go to furnish gas and buses to take children that didn’t belong to them to a celebration of something that God considers an abomination unto Him,” another lamented. “You people that are doing this or allowing this need to heed the word of God on this type of celebration! I do not want my tax dollars spent on this type of sin!”
The school district had also posted in recognition of Pride Month on June 1, stating that it “celebrates and supports” its homosexual and transgender students and staff, adding the hashtag “#OKCPSpride.” It has participated in the pride parade since 2017.
Oklahoma City Mayor Mayor David Holt issued a proclamation on Monday declaring this week “Pride Week” in the city, citing its correspondence with the pride parade and the election of the first openly homosexual city council member, James Cooper. It is the first for an Oklahoma City mayor to do so.
“Whereas the LGBTQ community of Oklahoma City are valued contributors to the vibrant and diverse culture of Oklahoma City … Whereas tremendous progress has been made across Oklahoma City toward full equality for LGBTQ people,” the proclamation reads, according to video footage posted by local television station KOCO.
“Whereas we remain committed to protecting the rights of LGBTQ residents, fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion, and working to ensure full equality for all people in Oklahoma City. … I, David Holt, mayor of the city of Oklahoma City, do hereby proclaim June 17-23, 2019 as Pride Week in Oklahoma City and encourage all residents to join together in celebration of the contributions of LGBT residents…”
As previously reported, the Bible teaches that all men are born with the Adamic sin nature, having various inherent inclinations that are contrary to the law of God and being “by nature, the children of wrath” (Ephesians 2:3) as the enemies of God (Romans 5:10).
“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned,” Romans 5:12 states. Job 14:4 also asks, “Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? Not one.”
Jesus outlined in John 3:5-7 that men — being in indwelling bondage to their sin, unable to free themselves or to atone for their wrongs — must be supernaturally regenerated by the second birth, and be transformed from being in Adam to being in Christ, or they cannot see the kingdom of Heaven.
“Jesus answered and said unto him, ‘Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.’
Nicodemus saith unto him, ‘How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb and be born?’
Jesus answered, ‘Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, ‘Ye must be born again.’”
The late Anglican preacher J.C. Ryle also once explained of the evidence of regeneration, “I do say that in the matter of breaking God’s commandments, everyone that is born again is quite a new man. He no longer takes a light and cool and easy view of sin; he no longer judges of it with the world’s judgment.”
“He no longer thinks a little swearing, or a little Sabbath-breaking, or a little fornication, or a little drinking, or a little covetousness small and trifling matters, but he looks on every sort of sin against God or man as exceeding abominable and damnable in the Lord’s sight, and, as far as in him lies, he hates it and abhors it, and desires to be rid of it root and branch, with his whole heart and mind and soul and strength.”
“As for his daily conduct, he allows himself in no known sin; he makes no compromise with his old habits and his old principles; he gives them up unsparingly, though it cost him pain, though the world think him over-precise and a fool — but he is a new man, and will have nothing more to do with the accursed thing — sin.”
