Teen ‘Pride’ Event Includes ‘Chest Binder’ Giveaway, Info on How to Use Condoms, Drag Show
RENTON, Wash. — A pride event for teenagers that was promoted as “[t]he most rainbow-filled fun you can imagine” and featured a drag show, a presentation on safe sex and how to use a condom, and a giveaway for “chest binders” for girls who identify as boys was held at a public library in Washington on Saturday.
“A pride celebration designed by teens for teens! Learn about local organizations here to support you! Free lunch and dinner! Fun crafts! Loads of activities! Open mic! Karaoke! Advice panels! Safer sex presentations! A drag show! Free swag! Free binder raffle!” a page on the King County Library System website states of the event at the Renton Public Library.
“The most rainbow filled fun you can imagine!”
However, one local resident who was among those who stood against the event said that “handouts included lube [and] flavored condoms,” and that eight girls could win a chest binder. The binders are used when females are bothered by the appearance of their breasts because they identify more with males and wish to look and feel like one.
Video footage of two of the drag presentations have been posted to social media. One video shows one man stripping off his skirt during his performance as he prances across the floor in high-heeled boots for cheering onlookers.
He soon drops to the floor and throws his legs up in the air, wearing little to cover his albeit suited bottom but a narrow piece of cloth. The audience claps and cheers.
“So if you fight like a girl, cry like a girl, do your thing, run the whole [expletive] world,” the song being performed states. “[Expletive] [second expletive], I didn’t know it was ending right there.”
The tune, “Like a Girl,” by Lizzo contains other uses of profanity.
Another video shows a man wearing a long peach gown, who switches on-and-off from lip-syncing to Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” to guttural manly screams while on on his hands and knees. Onlookers laugh.
One report states that at 5 p.m., the adults present were told to leave, and when one woman refused, the police removed her.
Reaction to footage and photographs from the event has been mixed, with some defending the presentations and others horrified that such material was shown to teens and tweens.
“How many 14-year-olds are sexually active? More than their parents know about. Allowing someone to have access to free condoms and to be taught how to properly use them so they are being safe is so much better than them being denied knowledge and a form of birth control, which then makes them susceptible to an STD, HIV, or an unwanted pregnancy,” one commenter said of the “safer sex presentation.”
“I would rather my teen trans son would find out about safe chest binding, etc. than come up with an unsafe homemade version,” another wrote. “And also the fact that there is somebody to talk to about the issues they feel important to them in a safe environment like a library is surely a good thing.”
“Sick and disgusting! Why is our government allowing children be exposed to all this sexuality? Music videos, Disney channels and movies, all over the media, the sexualization of children is [real] and now is trapping kids at schools and libraries!” one man lamented in regard to the drag performances.
“Better learn how to homeschool and spend time with your children instead of letting the state educate your children and abuse their impressionable minds into all this sickness and depravity,” he urged. “God help us all.”
“I would be raging if this were heterosexual people doing acts like these in front of my children! LGBT community wants special treatment and I ain’t doing it!” a woman exclaimed.
“No wonder our kids and this generation is so confused and messed up in the head,” another remarked. “We ban cigarette commercials from sporting events and off the shelves because it’s bad for people’s well beings, but we allow the world to be subject to this depravity. Our children are becoming confused and unstable, but the world says it’s ok.”
Jesus said in John 3:19-21, “And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world and men loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.”
1 Thessalonians 4:3-8 teaches, “For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication — that every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honor, not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God. … For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness. He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us His Holy Spirit.”
Colossians 3:5-10 exhorts, “Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth — fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry — for which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience. In the which ye also walked some time when ye lived in them.
But now ye also put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of Him that created him.”
