5.9 magnitude earthquake strikes Taiwan – USGS
A powerful 5.9 magnitude earthquake has struck northeastern coast of Taiwan, according to the US Geological Survey.
According to preliminary data, the tremors were registered at a depth of 10 kilometers, just outside of the city of Yilan, home to some 100,000 people.
While the quake shook buildings as far as Taipei, there were no immediate reports of destruction or injuries.
