Trump is yet to call Netanyahu: Our relationship is with Israel
US president, Donald Trump, made a brief comment Wednesday about the Israeli elections deadlock, saying “our relationship is with Israel.”
During a press gaggle in Los Angeles, the president was asked if he got a chance to speak with Prime Minister Netanyahu. “I have not,” he said. “Those results are coming in, and it’s very close. Look, our relationship is with Israel. We’ll see what happens.”
Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Netanyahu announced that due to the political situation in Israel, we would cancel his planned trip to the United Nations General Assembly in New York next week.
Netanyahu was supposed to meet Trump and to discuss, among other things, the idea to establish a defense treaty between the two countries, an idea that Trump reveled last Saturday, three days ahead of Israel’s elections.
It would be the first time since 2010 that Netanyahu will miss a chance to speak at the General Assembly. In recent years, the Israeli Prime Minister used the UN stage to bring attention to the Iranian aggression and the Iranian proxies terror activity.
Israeli media reported Wednesday that Netanyahu prefers to stay in Israel next week, when Israeli president, Ruvi Rivlin, is expected to sign the mandate to form the next coalition, to either Netanyahu or Blue and White leader, MK Benny Gantz.
