New US Ambassador to UN Reaffirms Unwavering Commitment to Israel

The new US Ambassador to the UN, Kelly Craft, has vowed to carry on the pro-Israel work of former Ambassador, Nikki Haley.

During her first meeting with Israel’s UN ambassador Danny Danon, Craft committed to partnering with Israel in the fight against Iranian-backed militia groups, Hamas and Hezbollah.

“Today, Craft and I discussed challenges and opportunities Israel and the US face together at the UN. I look forward to working together in this diplomatic arena! #StrongTogether” Dannon tweeted following Wednesday’s meeting.

During the course of their meeting, Danon and Craft also spoke about undertaking a combined diplomatic effort to combat the rise of antisemitism seen across the world in recent times.

Following in Haley’s footsteps

In her first speech to the UN since being sworn into the position by Vice President Mike Pence, Craft reaffirmed America’s unwavering support for the sovereign Israeli state. “The United States has always supported Israel in the past,” she declared at the Middle East debate in the Security Council last month, according to the Jerusalem Post. “The United States supports Israel today. The United States will always support Israel moving forward. Israel will have no better friend than Kelly Craft.”

Craft, who is a former US ambassador to Canada, also insisted that the United States must remain a key leader within the global community. “In a world marked by humanitarian crises and geopolitical challenges, strong American leadership is absolutely critical, and I intend to provide it,” she declared, according to the Times of Israel. “I will defend America’s values and interests,” Craft added, “I will stand by our friends and allies. I will advocate for the poor and the weak. And I will never fail to work with those who genuinely wish to advance the cause of human dignity.”

At her confirmation hearing back in June, Craft assured that she would be following firmly in the footsteps of Haley, who famously withdrew the United States from UN Human Rights Council and UNESCO over anti-Israel bias.

“Without US leadership, our partners and allies would be vulnerable to bad actors at the UN. This is particularly true in the case of Israel, which is the subject of unrelenting bias and hostility in UN venues,” she explained.

“The United States will never accept such bias, and if confirmed I commit to seizing every opportunity to shine a light on this conduct, call it what it is, and demand that these outrageous practices finally come to an end.”
