House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stepped to the mic this weekend on Face the Nation after Republicans claimed President Trump had not been given the opportunity to state his case during the ongoing impeachment inquiry.
“The president could come right before the committee and talk, speak all the truth that he wants if he wants,” Pelosi said. “He has every opportunity to present his case.”
She continued, according to CBN News: “If he has information that is exculpatory, that means ex, taking away, culpable, blame, then we look forward to seeing it.”
After the interview, Trump fired back on Twitter: “Even though I did nothing wrong, and don’t like giving credibility to this No Due Process Hoax, I like the idea & will, in order to get Congress focused again, strongly consider it!”

Pelosi also condemned Trump for allowing the process to continue, comparing him to former President Richard Nixon, who resigned before the House could vote on impeachment.
“But it’s really a sad thing,” she said. “I mean, what the president did was so much worse than even what Richard Nixon did, that at some point Richard Nixon cared about the country enough to recognize that this could not continue.”
The House Intelligence Committee held its first open hearing last week over Trump’s phone call with the Ukrainian president. The hearings continue this week with Democrats simplifying their charge, according to CNN, arguing that “he may be guilty of the impeachable crime of bribery after holding up military aid for Ukraine.” The next key witness to testify will be the US Ambassador to the European Union, Gordon Sondland, who has touch points with both Ukraine and the President.
Meanwhile, according to Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-TX), Inspector General Michael Horowitz will release a report in the upcoming days about how the Russian collusion investigation started. Critics of the investigation believe it was initiated by the Obama administration.
“The Democrats are racing to get through this impeachment as quickly as possible,” Ratcliffe said. “That’s why we had eight witnesses in five hearings this week, and we’re not doing any of the work because they know that that inspector general’s report is likely to be damning about the origins of the 2016 investigation into the Trump campaign and the role that the Obama-Biden officials played in that.”
