Syrian army claims Israel struck T4 Military Airbase near Homs
A Syrian Army source reported that the Israeli Air Force carried out an airstrike on the T-4 Military Airbase near the city of Homs in western Syria, according to the Syrian state news agency SANA. The attack caused material damage and most of the missiles were shot down, according to the Syrian Army. Airstrikes blamed on Israel have targeted the T-4 airbase in the past.
Simultaneously, explosions were heard in the Deir Ezzor area of eastern Syria near sites belonging to Syrian regime forces. A series of airstrikes by unidentified aircraft targeted Iranian-backed militias in Deir Ezzor near the city of Al-Bukamal in the past week.
The reported airstrikes come as tensions remain high in the region in the aftermath of the US assassination of former Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps Quds Force commander Qasem Soleimani and a subsequent retaliatory missile attack by the IRGC on US bases in Iraq. Iranian militias in the area are on high alert. Reuters contributed to this report.
