Kim Kardashian-West went back to the White House yesterday with three formerly convicted women to discuss criminal justice reform with President Donald Trump.
“I’m raising four black children that could face a situation like any of the people that I help,” the star said, according to USA Today. “Just to know I can make a difference in my children’s lives and (others) by helping fix a broken system, that’s so motivating for me.”
The three other women who joined West were Tynice Nichole Hall, Crystal Munoz and Judith Negron, as well as Alice Johnson, who was serving a life sentence for cocaine trafficking until her sentence was commuted by Trump in 2018. West was integral to all of these women’s releases.
“President Trump commuted the sentences of three really deserving women. I didn’t hear much about it in the news so I wanted to share with you their stories!” she tweeted. “I have the pleasure of spending the day with these women today along with @AliceMarieFree who helped to pick these women.”

All of the women were mothers who had to leave children when they were put behind bars.
“Crystal Munoz was sentenced to 20 years in prison for conspiracy to possess & distribute marijuana. She left behind a five-month-old baby & was pregnant. Crystal was shackled by prison guards during the birth of her second daughter,” West said in a follow-up tweet.

She also shared Judith Negron’s story, who was sentenced to 35 years for conspiracy to commit health care fraud.
“After trial she received the longest sentence ever given to a female for a white-collar crime. A mother, she left behind two young sons. This was Judith’s first-ever offense.”

The third woman, Tynice Nichole Hall, was sent to jail for a first-time nonviolent offense.
“Her boyfriend at the time used her house for his illegal drug activities. She was only 22 years old when she went to prison and left behind a 3-year-old son,” West tweeted. Hall received a 35-year sentence.

West has worked for years on helping to reform the criminal justice system, specifically for women. Her efforts have recently been focused on her new documentary called, “Kim Kardashian West: The Justice Project.” She has also been pursuing a law degree.
“It can be exhausting, frustrating, but I know that we can make a difference, and so all the criticism in the world will not deter me from what I want to do,” West said at the Television Critics Association in January. “I’m very used to criticism so nothing really fazes me. I’m one of those not-human souls that can really deal with it. However, I really genuinely just stay focused on cases and people and am extremely compassionate.
“No, I’m not doing it for publicity,” she said. “I really do care and spend 20 hours a week away from my family and my kids (for this).”
Her new show premieres on Oxygen on April 5.
