Fauci: ‘I’m Concerned About Community Spread’ of Coronavirus Outbreak

National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director Anthony Fauci said on Sunday’s broadcast of NBC’s “Meet the Press” that the United States is “unfortunately” at the point of  “community spread” in the coronavirus outbreak.

Fauci said, “I think we’re getting a better sense as the day goes by. Unfortunately, that better sense is not encouraging because we’re seeing community spread. Whenever you see community spread, you can do contact tracing, but as more community spread becomes logistically more difficult.”

He continued, “There comes a time, Chuck when you have containment which you’re trying to find out who’s infected and put them in isolation. I hope it’s if and not when you get so many people infected, the best thing you can do is mitigation in addition to containment.”

He added, “Clearly, I’m concerned about community spread. You have to realistically be concerned about community spread.”
