Coronavirus: Netanyahu approves preliminary plan to open the economy
The Finance Ministry will formulate a pilot plan for a number of commercial sectors that will be allowed to open subject to the directives of the Health Ministry. A standard will be determined that will include criteria for the opening of businesses in the defined sectors.— PM of Israel (@IsraeliPM) April 16, 2020
The government will gradually open a limited number of businesses, which will be subject to the rules and restrictions that the Health and Finance ministries will determine by Saturday night. In addition, the plan calls for permitting exercise and sports up to 500 meters from home and re-opening special education programs. The final plan will be drafted over the next 48 hours and brought to a vote by the cabinet on Saturday night.
Over the next 48hrs the professional teams will prepare the draft decision and map the sectors in the pilot, and detailed procedures for operating the businesses and companies will be prepared, as will be guidelines on the conduct of the public in the public sphere and businesses— PM of Israel (@IsraeliPM) April 16, 2020
At the meeting, if participants at the meeting could have been closer than two meters from another, punches might have been thrown, as the country’s leaders engaged in the exit strategy debate. “We’re not really talking about an exit strategy here,” Finance Ministry director-general Shai Babad said during the meeting. “Let’s disperse the discussion, and we’ll reconvene when we reach 10 or 20 patients a day as the Health Ministry wants.”
