Second Night of the RNC Highlights Faith, Freedom and Justice

Second Night of the RNC Highlights Faith, Freedom and Justice

Speakers during the second night of the Republican National Convention commended President Trump’s contributions to religious freedom, criminal justice reform and economic growth.

According to CBN News, faith was the primary focus during the opening of Tuesday night’s event under the theme, “Land of Opportunity.”

Eric Trump, the President’s son, started off the night by promising “all houses of worship” and “all people of faith stripped of religious freedom and religious liberties” that President Trump “will fight for you.”

As Christian Headlines previously reported, Cissie Lynch Graham, the daughter of evangelist Franklin Graham, expressed her gratitude for Trump as an advocate for religious freedom.

“Our founders did not envision a quiet hidden faith, they fought to ensure that the voices of faith were always welcome, not silenced, not bullied,” she said.

In January 2019, Nicolas Sandman faced off against a Native American man at the Lincoln Memorial in a viral video. He told the RNC on Tuesday that the media constantly bullied him following the incident while ignoring the full context of the story.

“My life changed forever in that one moment,” Sandmann said in a pre-recorded speech from the Lincoln Memorial. “The full war machine of the mainstream media revved up into attack mode. They did so without ever researching the full video of the incident, without ever investigating Mr. Phillips’s motives or without ever asking me for my side of the story.

“And do you know why? Because the truth wasn’t important. Advancing their anti-Christian, anti-conservative, anti-Donald Trump narrative was all that mattered,” he asserted.

Also during Tuesday’s event, Abby Johnson, a Planned Parenthood employee turned leading pro-life activist, applauded the President’s pro-life stance.

“I’ve been the perpetrator to these babies, to these women, and I now support President Trump because he has done more for the unborn than any other president,” Johnson said.

In an unprecedented speech, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also offered his endorsement of Trump as he spoke from Jerusalem.

“The President, too, moved the US embassy to this very city of Jerusalem, the rightful capital of the Jewish homeland. And just two weeks ago, the president brokered a historic peace deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates,” he said.

Pompeo sparked outrage over his RNC appearance as he had previously warned American diplomats not to take sides during the 2020 presidential campaign, according to the Associated Press.

Capping off night two of the RNC was a speech from First Lady Melania Trump, who spoke from the recently renovated Rose Garden.

“The past three and a half years have been unforgettable, there are no words to describe how honored, humbled and fortunate I am to serve our nation as your First Lady,” she said.

Melania’s speech included her compassion towards COVID-19 victims as well as creating awareness for opioid addiction. She also addressed the recent riots that have occurred in several U.S cities and called for an end of the violence and racial unrest.

“I also ask people to stop the violence and looting being done in the name of justice and never make assumptions on the color of a person’s skin,” Melania said. “Instead of tearing things down, let’s reflect on our mistakes. Be proud of our evolution and look to our way forward. Every day let us remember that we are one nation under God and we need to cherish one another.”

Other notable moments from the night include a surprise naturalization ceremony for five people and a pardoning of a convicted bank robber turned prisoner reintegration program leader.
