Erdan: Israel-Bahrain deal marks historic day for Israel, the Arab world

Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi welcomed on Friday Bahrain agreeing to establish full diplomatic relations, according to Walla! News.
“President’s Trump declaration about Bahrain establishing full diplomatic relations with Israel is another significant milestone in Israel’s efforts to normalize relations with countries in the region.”
The foreign minister further added, “I thank the Bahraini people and its leaders, and I am eager to continue and work together. The relations between our countries have a strategic and economic meaning and I am sure that we can continue and expand our mutual efforts to maintain the stability in the region for both our countries and for the benefit of our citizens.” Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations Gilad Erdan also responded to Bahrain’s decision to normalize relations with Israel.
“Another historic day for Israel and the Arab world,” Erdan tweeted along with a video of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu speaking on the historic deal.”

Erdan later had a conversation with Bahrain’s ambassador to the UN, Jamal Fares Alrowaiei. The two also reportedly “also agreed to meet to discuss cooperation in the UN on issues of innovation and economic development for the benefit of the two countries.”“Expanding the circle of peace in the Middle East can lead to a change at the UN as well,” Erdan said. “We are entering a new era in which we can publicly work together on security issues and the economic prosperity of Israel and the Arab countries. Together, we will face the challenges that threaten stability in the Middle East.”Bahrain joined the United Arab Emirates in striking an agreement to normalize relations with Israel, President Donald Trump said on Friday, a dramatic move aimed at easing tensions in the Middle East.Trump tweeted out the news after he spoke by phone to both Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the White House said.
