‘Fight for the Truth, Don’t Back Down’: Jim Caviezel Urges Christians to Fight for Their Religious Freedom
In a recent interview with LifeSite News, Actor Jim Caviezel told Christians they need to fight for the truth if they still want to freely practice religion, The Western Journal reports. But not the type of fighting with swords and clubs, the type of fighting that involves telling people the truth and standing firm in it.
“No one has ever rode (sic) to victory on the back of fake moral platitudes. We have to speak the truth boldly,” Caviezel reportedly said. As an example, Caviezel talked about the “barbaric” Christian persecution in the world today while mentioning his upcoming movie, Infidel. He said, “Barbaric Christian persecution is something that still goes on today. The goal would be to create a sense of urgency and relevance to Christians and non-Christians who should be engaged in this issue.”
According to LifeSiteNews, Caviezel also asserted that “Christians should be at war with secular extremists, declaring that this is ‘a war that needs to be fought and must be won.’” He also said that slavery and suffering have existed throughout most of Christianity’s history. But, if Christians don’t fight today, “You’ll wish that you never even knew what democracy was. This Christian way of living will soon be gone. We’re talking about massive, massive persecutions.”
Caviezel’s new film, Infidel, is about an American Christian who was kidnapped in Cairo and thrown into an Iranian jail on spying charges. A very real charge that happens to Christians in Iran today, like Dabrina Bet-Tamraz, who pleaded with the UN Human Rights Council over a prison sentence they received for “religious espionage.” The U.S. State Department has also labeled Iran as the number one state sponsor of terror in the world.
In a November 2018 speech, Nathan A. Sales, the State Department’s Coordinator for Counterterrorism stated, “Iran is the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism. Period. It has held that dubious distinction for many years now and shows no sign of relinquishing the title. To the contrary, the regime in Tehran continues to provide hundreds of millions of dollars every year to terrorists across the world. It does this, despite ongoing economic turmoil that’s impoverishing many of its people. The beneficiaries of this misbegotten largesse range from Hizballah in Lebanon, to Hamas in Gaza, to violent rejectionist groups in the West Bank, to the Houthis in Yemen, to hostile militias in Iraq and Syria.”
