Broadway Actor Comes Under Fire for Speaking Out against COVID Restrictions on Churches

Tony Award-nominated Broadway actor Chad Kimball received pushback this week after he publicly disagreed with Washington state authorities over COVID-19 restrictions on churches, CBN reported.

Kimball, who lives in Seattle, disagreed in a tweet with Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, who recently tightened restrictions in the state on religious services to 25%percent indoor occupancy or no more than 200 people. Church members are also forbidden to sing in the building, even if they are wearing a mask.

“Respectfully, I will never allow a Governor, or anyone, to stop me from SINGING, let alone singing in a worship to my God,” Kimball said wrote on Twitter. “Folks, absolute POWER corrupts ABSOLUTELY. This is not about safety. It’s about POWER. I will respectfully disobey these unlawful orders,” he added.

Despite the actor’s positive COVID diagnosis earlier this year, Kimball voiced his concern for the potential overreach of governmental authority.

Several of the actor’s co-stars disagreed. Sharon Wheatley, a fellow Broadway actress, tweeted: “I respectfully totally and completely disagree with you. I respectfully feel you are very much on the wrong side of this. I FaceTimed with you when you had COVID, Chad. You were very sick. I remember. It scared me. I love you like a brother, but I disagree with you.”

Kimball also took to Instagram to spur his followers to ask hard questions.

“All of our earthly pleasures—the things we rely on, our freeedom, the things that help us escape—have been ripped away. And the only thing standing are those aching questions—Who am I? WHOSE am I? What is the thing that LASTS? Where does my strength come from? Where does HOPE come from? These are questions I’ve been asking myself. So. We all stand here naked and apart from our comforts and pleasures. And we’ve got time to think!”
