IDF strikes Hamas targets in Gaza in response to rocket that hit Ashkelon

The Israeli Air Force retaliated against Hamas military targets in the early morning hours on Sunday in response to a rocket that was fired earlier from Gaza into Israel, the IDF spokesperson confirmed on Twitter. The IDF struck two rocket manufacturing sites and several underground infrastructures belonging to the terrorist organizations, according to the tweet.”We hold Hamas responsible,” the IDF said.

Late Saturday, sirens and a rocket was heard above the skies of Ashkelon, located in Israel’s southern region. Witnesses reported hearing an explosion. The IDF later confirmed that a single rocket was launched into Israel from Gaza. Police reported that the rocket landed on a factory warehouse south of the city. Magen David Adom said that no injuries had been reported from the incident. This is the second time in a week that the IDF retaliated against rocket fire from the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli military struck Hamas military infrastructure on the morning of November 15 in response to rocket fire launched toward the center of the country. Hamas said then that a rocket that landed in Israel was launched unintentionally due to lightening and bad weather. The strikes, carried out by Israeli Air Force jets, attack helicopters and IDF tanks targeted “underground infrastructure and military posts of the terror group Hamas in the Gaza Strip,” the IDF Spokespersons Unit said in a statement, adding that the military “is conducting an ongoing situational assessment and will act firmly and resolutely against any attempt to carry out terror activity against the citizens of the State of Israel and the violation of its sovereignty.”This is a developing story.
