LA Mayor Bans All Forms of Travel: ‘It’s Time to Cancel Everything’

The mayor of Los Angeles has issued a stay-at-home order, banning “all forms of travel.”

“My message couldn’t be simpler,” said Eric Garcetti, the Democratic LA mayor. “It’s time to hunker down. It’s time to cancel everything. And if it isn’t essential, don’t do it.”

LA residents were notified of the order last week, CBN News reports.

“All travel, including, without limitation, travel on foot, bicycle, scooter, motorcycle, automobile, or public transit is prohibited,” read his office’s latest dictate.

In a tweet, Garcetti said he hopes vaccines will bring an end to the pandemic.

“But here’s the truth: we’re in for a long, hard winter,” he said. “As the worst hits us, stay home as much as you can. Cancel any non-essential activities.”

Under the order, all businesses, except those with exemptions such as grocery stores, media outlets, gas stations and restaurants with take-out, drive-through and delivery services, must close.

Any public or private gatherings “of any number of people from more than one household are prohibited.” He did add that outdoor religious events and protests are allowed.

Garcetti also said he has asked the Los Angeles Police Department to “vigorously enforce” the new order.

According to KTLA 5, Garcetti has also recently been the target of protestors who are rallying against the mayor taking an appointment to President-elect Joe Biden’s cabinet.

Protestors have criticized Garcetti’s record with transportation and homelessness issues.

Sunday, one protestor with the Black Lives Matter Los Angeles group was arrested outside the mayor’s house.

LAPD spokeswoman Melissa Podany said someone used a bullhorn at the protest, which is a violation of city code. Officers started to make an arrest, but the crowd “moved in on officers, pinching, pushing and kicking,” Podany said.

BLM LA co-founder Melina Abdullah, however, says officers “ambushed” the crowd.

Groups have been protesting outside Garcetti’s home for days. According to local media, at least three people have been arrested since the protesting started.
