Tom Selleck Gives Waitress $2,020 Tip

Actor Tom Selleck, who plays Commissioner Frank Reagan on the TV show Blue Bloods, has accepted the #2020TipChallenge and gave a waitress a $2,020 tip with a note expressing “sincere hope” for the new year, The Christian Post reports.

The note read “For Elios, I am honoring my friend Donnie Wahlberg’s ‘tip challenge’ with my sincere hope for a better 2020. Thank you all.”

His TV son Donnie Wahlberg, who plays Danny Reagan on Blue Bloods, posted the photo of the tip to Twitter in a tweet that read “I found out that my TV Dad (Selleck) has generously accepted the #2020TipChallenge at Elios Upper East Side! Love ya dad. I didn’t start it but I’m proud to be part of it. To those who gave even the smallest extra amount this year — THANK YOU.”

Many have claimed Donnie Wahlberg started the challenge, but this is factually inaccurate, he simply got some of his fellow celebrities to join in. The challenge was actually started in Michigan when a waitress received a $2,020 tip on a $23 bill. Other celebrities who have participated include Harry Styles and The Masked Singer judge and Donnie Wahlberg’s wife, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg.

Donnie Wahlberg, himself, left a $2,020 tip on a bill at an IHop in his hometown. The meal was $73. His wife took to Twitter to post about the event, saying “@DonnieWahlberg starting 2020 off like the amazing man he is. #ihop #2020tipchallenge”

The original tipper remains unknown, but it was written with the note “Happy New Year” to a waitress at Thunder Bay River Restaurant. “They don’t know nothing about my story, they don’t know where I’ve come from, they don’t know how hard it’s been,” The waitress who received the first tip explained. “They’re really just doing this out of the kindness of their heart.” The waitress reportedly left a $20.20 tip on another bill to pay it forward to another server.
