More than $100,000 Raised for Proud Boys Leader on Christian Crowdfunding Site

An online crowdfunding campaign on GiveSendGo, the “#1 Free Christian Fundraising site,” has raised more than $100,000 for the legal defense fund of Henry “Enrique” Tarrio, the international chairman of the Proud Boys Group who was arrested in December for burning a church’s Black Lives Matter banner.

According to The Christian Post, Tarrio was arrested after a Dec. 12 incident in Washington, D.C. in which he lit a Black Lives Matter banner on fire. The banner had been placed at a historic Black church in the city.

“I did it,” Tarrio posted online. “Come get me if you feel like what I did was wrong. We’ll let the public decide.

“I am here today to admit that I am the person responsible for the burning of this sign. And I am not ashamed of what I did because I didn’t do it out of hate. … I did it out of love.”

This week, police arrested Tarrio for the December incident. Police also found two high-capacity firearm magazines on him and ammo.

He pled not guilty, but a judge decided he would be banned from entering the District of Columbia until June.

In a message on the fundraising campaign, Tarrio said: “I was arrested in Washington DC on 1/4/2021 this fund has been created to fund my legal defense and counter suit against the city of Washington DC.”

In September 2020, President-elect Joe Biden asked President Donald Trump to denounce the Proud Boys group, but Trump told the Proud Boys group to “stand back and stand by.”

Tarrio did not attend the riot this week at the Capitol because of the court order, but he posted on the social networking site Parler that he would help legally support any Proud Boys that were arrested during the riot.

“To those that are currently being hunted by the tyrannical government and media … Unless you destroyed property or assaulted an officer … (Which is serious, but they’ve dropped those charges for anarcho-Communists) … they can only charge you with trespassing. Do not let them scare you with anything else. This is the time to say F**K THE SYSTEM,” he wrote in a statement to his members. “We will find attorneys to represent you if needed. We will help raise you money for your legal defense. You are not alone. All of you helped when I needed it the most. So, I am forever in your gratitude and I will always be here for you.”
