Impeaching Biden? Republican Rep. to File Articles against Biden Day after Inauguration

A freshman Republican member of Congress says she will introduce articles of impeachment against President-elect Joe Biden the day after he is inaugurated.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) told Newsmax that Biden deserves to be impeached over his alleged illegal deals with China and Ukraine. Greene, before she was elected, recorded videos supporting the QAnon conspiracy theory.

Greene told Newsmax she would be opposing Biden “on behalf of the American people.”

“We have to make sure that our leaders are held accountable. We cannot have a president of the United States that is willing to abuse the power of the office of the presidency and be easily bought off by foreign governments … or Chinese energy companies, Ukrainian energy companies. So on Jan. 21, I will be filing articles of impeachment on Joe Biden,” Greene told Newsmax.

Greene later told Newsmax, “The Republican Party needs to change things up. The silent majority in this nation is fed up with being the target and not having representatives, not having people in Congress stand up for them. … It’s time to show the truth about Joe Biden, how he abused the power of office when he was vice president.”

Reaction from Georgians was mixed.

“Shame on Rep. Greene. Waste of time,” tweeted former Georgia state Rep. Buzz Brockway. “Sadly elected officials these days see themselves as performance artists there to entertain their supporters. Where are the people who want to do the actual job?”

Several of her supporters on Facebook said they appreciated the thought but said the impact would harm Republicans: “Big mistake. … if that happens Kamala Harris takes over,” one person wrote.

It’s not the first time Greene sparked controversy this week. On Tuesday she tweeted: “President Trump will remain in office. This Hail Mary attempt to remove him from the White House is an attack on every American who voted for him. Democrats must be held accountable for the political violence inspired by their rhetoric.”

That led her GOP colleague, Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill), to tweet to her, “These are quite literally the things that incite insurrections. Four years of programming people with this message. This is also quite literally anti-democracy. Let’s get rid of this ‘DC for fame’ culture that this exemplifies.”
