Rep. Jackie Speier Says Republicans Should Be Called the ‘Terrorist Right’

U.S. Rep. Jackie Speier said Monday that far right leaning Republicans should be called the “terrorist right.”

“The Republicans have been calling Democrats the radical left. Time to call Republicans the terrorist right,” the Democratic representative tweeted this week.

Speier’s tweet was “liked” more than 8,000 times and caught the attention of activist and former One Tree Hilll actress Sophia Bush, Faithwire reports.

“It’s been time,” Bush replied.

Bush has long rallied against conservative leadership. Previously, Bush had tweeted in support of the impeachment of former President Donald Trump.

“He must be convicted,” she tweeted. “Accountability is the only way to stop this from happening again. And from Trump officials knee-capping the National Guard, to horrific death and destruction, the crimes played out on paper AND on live TV. This is not up for debate.”

In recent weeks, many activists and Democratic political leaders have called some Republicans extreme, particularly following the riots at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said last week on MSNBC’s All in with Chris Hayes that many of the Republicans in the House are “legitimate white supremacist sympathizers.”

“We really, really need to ask ourselves what they are evolving into,” Ocasio-Cortez said, “because this is no longer about a party of limited government; this is about something much more nefarious.”

The Democratic representative has also said that Republican Sen. Ted Cruz “almost had me murdered weeks ago,” referring to the storming of the Capitol.

“Happy to work [with] almost any other GOP that aren’t trying to get me killed. In the meantime, if you want to help, you can resign,” she tweeted.

Ocasio-Cortez said Cruz had signed a written objection to certify the election results on Jan. 6. That day, rioters stormed the Capitol.

Cruz later called the action of the rioters “despicable,” saying they “should be fully prosecuted” and “should spend a long, long time in jail.”
