Former Real Estate Broker Succeeds Carl Lentz as Hillsong NYC’s New Pastor
John Termini, a former real estate broker along with his wife, Katie, has recently assumed a leadership position at Hillsong NYC following the termination of former celebrity pastor Carl Lentz last November.
According to The Christian Post, Termini, 38, delivered his first message in a Jan. 24 broadcast titled, “Who’s Leading You?” to Hillsong East Coast churches.
“My name is John Termini and I’m helping lead our church right now in this season,” he began. “And I know this has been a really challenging time for our church to navigate. I want to take a moment … to say thank you that you’ve been praying with us, standing with us. We could not do this without you.”
“You know, I used to be a broker,” Termini explained. “I love brokers — thank God for brokers — but you know what’s better than a broker is the owner. Why go to a broker? Why go to an owner? Go to a dealer. His name is the Holy Spirit. He can show you access to the Father.”
Termini is a son of Rev. Sal Termini of Key to Faith Church, a Hillsong Network Church located in Syosset, Long Island. According to Termin’s LinkedIn page, he worked for CBRE, a global commercial real estate and investment firm from September 2007 until September 2012. A year later, Termini joined Hillsong Church as director of business development in 2013 and in 2019, he became head of global real estate for Hillsong Church.
As Christian Headlines previously reported, Lentz was fired from Hillsong due to “leadership and moral issues”. The former pastor later revealed that he had been unfaithful in his marriage.
At the present time, it is unclear as to whether or not Termini’s leadership at Hillsong East Coast will be permanent. Hillsong representatives have yet to respond to questions from The Christian Post about whether additional candidates, aside from Termini, are being considered for the pastorate.
