NY Governor Cuomo Faces Probe for Withholding COVID-19 Nursing Home Death Data
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is reportedly facing potential political jeopardy after it was discovered that a top-level Democratic aide withheld nursing home data early in the pandemic, reportedly so that Cuomo would not be scrutinized by the Trump Administration for his handling of the Coronavirus.
According to Fox News, there have been calls for an investigation by the Justice Department over the Cuomo Administration’s conduct.
On Thursday, U.S. Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY) condemned Cuomo in a statement saying, “The families of thousands of dead New York seniors deserve accountability and justice for the true consequences of Governor Cuomo’s fatally flawed nursing home policy and the continued attempts to cover it up. It’s clear what’s happening here is criminal.”
One representative, Elise Stefanik (R-NY) even called for Cuomo’s prosecution, writing on Twitter, “Governor Cuomo, the Secretary to the Governor, and his senior team must be prosecuted immediately.”
Additionally, she asserted that “this bombshell admission of a coverup and the remarks by the Secretary to the Governor indicating intent to obstruct any federal investigation is a stunning and criminal abuse of power.”

The New York Post reports that the statements came from Melissa DeRosa, telling lawmakers they “froze” out of fear of being investigated by the Trump Administration over their handling of the Coronavirus. She also asked for “a little bit of appreciation of the context” while also apologizing. She said “So we do apologize. I do understand the position that you were put in. I know that it is not fair. It was not our intention to put you in that political position with the Republicans.”
This is seemingly the first apology from Cuomo’s administration.
According to the New York Post, on Thursday NY Attorney General Letitia James announced that the actual nursing home deaths appear to be 50 percent higher than they were claimed to be “because Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s administration hasn’t revealed how many of those residents died in hospitals.”
