IDF soldier in critical condition after being shot in the head on base

An IDF combat soldier was severely injured after being shot in the head on a military base located in the Jordan Valley on Tuesday night, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit reported.
The initial investigation showed that the soldier was shot with a Ruger that is generally used by the IDF for violent crowd dispersal.
He is in critical condition in Hadassah Hospital’s ICU, a spokesperson for Hadassah stated on Wednesday.
The initial investigation also showed that the soldiers in the platoon in which the incident occurred had returned on Tuesday from the range where they were preparing for operational activity near Gaza, training with Ruger rifles. Around 10 p.m., a commander lifted one of the weapons that the soldiers had been firing at the range and pointed it towards an area near the base’s infirmary.
A bullet was fired from the weapon and hit a soldier in the head. An IDF paramedic administered life-saving treatment on the scene before the soldier was evacuated to the hospital.

The injured soldier’s family was notified of the incident.
The incident took place at the Tevetz base in the Jordan Valley, Ynet reported, where IDF troops maintain routine security activity, with injuries this serious being considered highly unusual.

Initially, it was suspected that the soldier had suffered the head injury from a rock thrown at him.
